CHIPPEWA NATIONAL FOREST LOG HEADQUARTERS BUILDING

Built in 1935 of native red pine, logged from Star Island and  Lake 13 area. The unique character of the building is the Finnish log construction style.

Containing 8,500 square feet of floor space, it is constructed entirely of Minnesota forest products.

The 50-foot-high fireplace and chimney is made of split and matched glacial  boulders, native to this area. More than 265 tons of rock were used in its  construction of 14 X 14 at the base and tapering to 10 X 10 feet at its top.

You are invited to come by and visit and pick up many of several hand-outs featuring the Cass Lake area.
